CHINA FOCUS TOUR 2010 - Hong Kong
Our stay in Hong Kong was somewhat marred by the weather. We visited Victoria Peak twice during our stay in Hong Kong and met ghastly weather conditions during our first attempt and marginal conditions on our second visit. So, I missed significant imagery of the arguably two most beautiful areas we encountered on our China Focus tour; the Li River and Victoria Peak. However, as much as we would have like to, we had no control over the weather.
We visited a Hong Kong jewelry factory but, although we were allowed virtually unlimited photographic access in the workshop area, we were requested not to take pictures in the showroom. This is obviously for security reasons. Judy and I opted for the optional afternoon extension to take a sampan tour of Aberdeen harbor and to have lunch at the Jumbo Floating Restaurant. Our next venue was Stanley Market and then the ferry trip over to the Kowloon Peninsula to stop in at the Peninsula Hotel and finally to see the Hong Kong Harbor Light Spectacular.
On our free day, Judy and I road a double-decker tram down to the Star Ferry and returned to the Kowloon Peninsula where we did some window shopping. Upon out return to Hong Kong Island, we road an open topped, double decked sightseeing bus and then returned to our hotel area. We visited the Wong Nai Chung Market and turned in for an early night.
The next morning we boarded an early hydrofoil and made the very interesting trip to the Mainland which meant passing through Hong Kong and People's Republic of China Immigration and Customs. The weather gods continued to frown on us and our passage to the Mainland was beset by fog and misty rain.
